Bulk waste collection requests must be made BEFORE your normal collection day by calling 757-382-CITY, submitting an online service request, or using the Chesapeake Service Request mobile app. Items should be placed at the curb no earlier than three days prior to your normal collection day. Non-bagged yard waste such as tree branches, limbs, bushes, and shrubbery requires a bulk waste request. City does NOT collect contractor debris or items exceeding size limits.

Chesapeake discontinued curbside recycling in 2023 and transitioned to a convenient drop-off system with 8 locations throughout the city. Most sites are accessible 24/7 (City Park and Deep Creek Park operate sunrise to sunset only). No collection on Saturdays and Sundays. Recyclables should be rinsed clean and placed LOOSE (not in plastic bags) into the appropriate containers. Container 1: Plastics #1 and #2, Metal cans, Mixed paper. Container 2: Corrugated cardboard only (shipping box material). NOTE: Chesapeake Animal Services accepts aluminum cans ONLY. Chesapeake observes the following holidays with NO waste collection (collection moved to next day) for 2025: Juneteenth (Thursday, June 19) - Thursday collection moved to Friday, June 20; Friday collection moved to Saturday, June 21. Independence Day (Friday, July 4) - Friday collection moved to Saturday, July 5. Thanksgiving (Thursday, November 27) - Thursday collection moved to Friday, November 28; Friday collection moved to Saturday, November 29. Christmas Day (Thursday, December 25) - Thursday collection moved to Friday, December 26; Friday collection moved to Saturday, December 27. The following holidays have NO SCHEDULE CHANGES: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, George Washington Day (Presidents Day), Memorial Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Yorktown Victory Day, Election Day, Veterans Day, Christmas Eve. When holidays fall on Thursday or Friday, those routes are typically moved to the following day, with Friday routes moved to Saturday.
