The City of Memphis provides one 96-gallon gray cart for single-stream recyclables. Items must be clean, empty, and dry. All plastic containers with recycling symbols are accepted, including large rigid plastics. Cardboard must fit in the cart without cutting into individual sheets (large cardboard is okay if it fits). Refer to the acceptable materials decal molded on your gray recycling cart lid. If your cart is not serviced or you need a cart, call 311. Residents who prefer not to use the 96-gallon cart can request cart pick-up by calling 311 or 901-636-6500.
Holiday Schedule
When City of Memphis offices are closed for holidays, there will be NO trash collection on that day. Collections for the holiday are typically moved to the day before or the next available day. For example, if your collection day is Monday or Tuesday during Christmas week, your trash will be picked up on the Monday before Christmas Eve. If your collection is Wednesday or Thursday, it will be picked up on the day after Christmas. When New Year's Day falls on a holiday, collection moves to the next business day. All garbage and recycling collections move to the next day when there is an observed holiday. Sign up for the Memphis Curbside Collection app to receive service alerts about holiday schedule changes.
