St. Louis provides 96-gallon BLUE roll carts for recyclables. Residents who receive trash collection via rollcarts should have one blue cart for recycling. Place cart at curb by 7:00 AM on collection day. Recycling is collected WEEKLY on Thursday (for Mon/Thu zones) or Friday (for Tue/Fri zones). Empty and rinse all containers - items must be CLEAN, EMPTY, and DRY. Leave caps on bottles. Do NOT flatten bottles (keeps lids attached). Flatten cardboard boxes. Keep items loose - no bags. Glass IS ACCEPTED in blue carts in St. Louis City (unlike Kansas City). Since summer 2025, recycling is only collected via residential roll carts - alley recycling has ended. If you do not have a blue cart, contact Citizens' Service Bureau at 314-622-4800. Visit STLCityRecycles.com for comprehensive recycling information and educational resources.

Holiday Schedule

When a city-observed holiday falls during the week, roll cart trash and recycling collection schedules are adjusted, and yard waste is NOT picked up during holiday weeks. Normal collection days shift to alternate days. For Monday/Thursday collection residents: During holiday weeks, trash is typically collected on Tuesday and recycling on Wednesday or Thursday (check specific holiday notices). For Tuesday/Friday collection residents: Trash collection typically moves to Wednesday and recycling to Friday or Saturday (check specific holiday notices). Holiday delays affect: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Residents should check the city's Holiday Schedule page or call 314-622-4800 for specific holiday week schedules.
