Schedule appointments at least 48 hours in advance by calling 816-513-BULK (2855) or 311. Place items at curb by 7:00 AM on scheduled collection day. Items placed without appointment will not be collected. If you need to cancel, call 816-513-BULK at least 96 hours (4 days) before scheduled pickup. The free bulky item collection service is available to all eligible residential addresses receiving city trash service.

Place recycling cart at curb no later than 7:00 AM and no earlier than 3:00 PM the day before collection. Recycling is collected on the SAME DAY as trash (weekly service). Empty and rinse all containers - items must be CLEAN, EMPTY, and DRY. Keep lids on bottles and tighten them. Do NOT flatten bottles or crush cans (keeps lids attached). Glass must be taken to one of three Bridging The Gap recycling drop-off centers or purple glass collection bins located throughout the city - NEVER place glass in curbside recycling cart. Flatten and break down cardboard boxes. For additional recycling beyond cart capacity, use clear plastic bags and place next to cart. Purple glass-only drop-off bins located at various grocery stores and community centers.

Holiday Schedule

When a city-observed holiday falls during the week, trash and recycling collection is delayed by one day for all routes after the holiday. If the holiday is on Monday, Monday routes move to Tuesday, Tuesday to Wednesday, and so on, with Friday collection moved to Saturday. Holiday delays affect: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Contact 311 or check kcmo.gov for weather-related delays or emergency schedule changes. Bulky item appointments scheduled during holiday weeks may be rescheduled - contact 311 for confirmation.

Drop off glass at: - Bridging The Gap recycling centers (3 locations, Wed-Sat 9 AM - 5 PM) - Purple glass-only collection bins at grocery stores and community centers throughout Kansas City COMPOST PROGRAM: Kansas City partners with Mill to provide 50+ high-tech composting bins at community centers, municipal buildings, and fire stations citywide. Residents can bring food scraps to any bin location for free. Private services (KC Can Compost, Compost Collective KC, Food Cycle KC) offer paid curbside collection starting around $13-20/month.
