Holiday Schedule

Solid waste and recycling collections are suspended on the following holidays OUTSIDE of the French Quarter and Downtown Development District: New Year's Day, Mardi Gras Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Collections in the French Quarter and CBD occur 365 days per year (daily, 4:00 AM - 8:00 AM). When a holiday falls during the week, missed collections are shifted forward one day for that week. Always verify your specific collection day during holiday weeks by calling 311 or visiting nola.gov/sanitation.

Important Information

New Orleans waste collection is managed by the Department of Sanitation with services provided by multiple contractors: Richard's Disposal Inc. (Algiers, Mid-City, Uptown), IV Waste (Gentilly, Lakeview, parts of Mid-City), and Waste Pro (New Orleans East, Ninth Ward). Collection is offered once weekly for residential properties with 4 units or less. Solid waste must be in city-supplied roll carts (96-gallon standard) or thick plastic bags with tight-fitting lids. Cardboard must be broken down and flattened. Collection times are typically between 4:00 AM and 8:00 AM. Residents can report missed collections or service issues by calling 311 or visiting nola311.org. Proof of New Orleans residency required at all drop-off facilities (valid driver's license or brake tag). Department of Sanitation office located at 1300 Perdido Street, 1W30, New Orleans, LA 70112.
