Lexington uses single-stream recycling - all accepted recyclables go together in the blue cart. Materials must be LOOSE, DRY, AND CLEAN. Never bag recyclables. Remove food residue from containers (rinsing not required, just empty). Keep plastic caps attached to plastic containers. Flatten cardboard boxes to save space. Place blue cart at curb with at least 3 feet of space around it, away from other carts, vehicles, trees, or objects. Set out no earlier than 4:00 PM the day before collection and no later than 5:00 AM on collection day. Remove by 7:00 PM. Alternative: 24/7 drop-off recycling bins available at Electronics Recycling Center (1306 Versailles Rd), Beaumont Middle School (2080 Georgian Way), Chinoe Creek Apartments (3522 Creekwood Dr), and Veterans Park (650 Southpoint Dr).
Holiday Schedule
Waste collection schedule is adjusted for major holidays in Lexington-Fayette. When a holiday falls during the week, collection is rescheduled: residents whose regular curbside waste collection falls on a holiday are serviced on Wednesday instead. Monday customers are serviced the Wednesday FOLLOWING the holiday. Thursday and Friday customers are serviced the Wednesday BEFORE the holiday. Gray yard waste carts and bundles are NOT collected during holiday weeks (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's), though recycle and trash carts along with paper yard waste bags are still picked up. The Haley Pike Waste Management Facility, Lexington Recycle Center, and Electronics Recycle Center are closed on all city holidays. Major holidays observed: New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas. Sign up for collection day text alerts by texting your regular collection day (MONDAY, TUESDAY, THURSDAY, or FRIDAY) to 888777. Contact LexCall at 311 for holiday schedule updates.
