Follow the "Think 5" method: Plastic, Glass, Metal containers, Cardboard, and Paper. Empty, Clean, Dry - rinse all containers before recycling. Leave caps ON plastic bottles. Place items loosely in cart - do NOT bag recyclables. NO plastic bags in recycling carts. Flatten cardboard to save space. Place cart at curb by 6:00 AM on collection day with wheels facing away from road. Keep carts at least 3 feet from obstacles (cars, mailboxes, other carts). When in doubt, throw it out - contaminated recycling can ruin entire loads.
Holiday Schedule
Orlando adjusts collection schedules for Thanksgiving and Christmas. When Thanksgiving or Christmas falls on a regular scheduled collection day, collection moves one day forward for the rest of the week. For example, if your regular day is Thursday and Thanksgiving is Thursday, your collection will be on Friday. Friday customers would be serviced on Saturday. New Year's Day: Normal schedule - NO collection changes. Independence Day: Normal schedule - NO collection changes. All other holidays (Memorial Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, etc.): Normal schedule - NO collection changes. Holiday collection schedules are posted on the city website and announced through OUC billing inserts. The Household Hazardous Waste facilities at Orange County Landfill and Porter Transfer Station are closed on Sundays and major holidays.
