Recycling collection occurs twice per month (bi-weekly) on your designated recycling day. Each household receives a 96-gallon green recycling cart provided by Progressive Waste Solutions. IMPORTANT: Glass is NOT accepted in Hialeah curbside recycling - dispose of glass bottles and jars in regular trash. All recyclable containers must be empty, clean, and dry before placing in the green recycling cart. Rinse food and beverage containers thoroughly. Place items loosely in the cart - do NOT bag recyclables or use plastic bags inside the cart. Flatten cardboard boxes to save space. Keep cart lid fully closed. Do not overfill - if cart lid does not close, remove excess items. Place cart at curb with wheels facing your home and handles facing the street by 6:00 AM on collection day. Remove cart from curb by end of collection day. Never package recyclable materials. Contaminated recycling (food, liquids, non-recyclables) may result in entire cart being rejected and counted as trash. When in doubt, throw it out. For cart repairs, replacement, or size concerns, call Progressive Waste at (305) 638-3800. Check your zone's recycling schedule at the interactive map: hialeahfl.gov/recycling or call (305) 687-2630.

Holiday Schedule

The City of Hialeah adjusts solid waste collection schedules for certain holidays. Residential customers who receive garbage and bulk waste collection service will receive NORMAL service on all holidays EXCEPT Christmas Day and New Year's Day. Recycling collection service is provided on all holidays EXCEPT Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. When a holiday that affects collection falls on a Monday or Tuesday, customers scheduled for service on the holiday will receive collection on the FIRST WEDNESDAY following the holiday. For holidays falling on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, collection may be delayed to the following week - check with Progressive Waste Solutions at (305) 638-3800 for confirmation. The City maintains normal collection on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day. Always verify holiday week schedules by calling Progressive Waste Solutions at (305) 638-3800, City Public Works at (305) 687-2630, or visiting hialeahfl.gov. Miami-Dade County Household Hazardous Waste facilities and Trash & Recycling Centers are CLOSED on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Independence Day, and Christmas Day.

Important Information

The City of Hialeah provides residential curbside waste collection to approximately 60,000 households within city limits through a contract with Progressive Waste Solutions. Garbage collection occurs twice per week on assigned days (combinations of Monday/Thursday, Tuesday/Friday, or Wednesday/Saturday). Recycling is collected bi-weekly (every other week). Bulk waste and yard waste are collected once per month on designated days by zone. Collection begins as early as 6:00 AM - place all carts and materials at the curb by 6:00 AM on your scheduled collection day (items may be placed out after 5:00 PM the evening before). Remove carts from curb by end of collection day or before 9:00 PM. Place carts at curbside within 3-5 feet of the street edge, with wheels facing your home and handles facing the street. Keep carts at least 3 feet apart and away from vehicles, mailboxes, utility poles, trees, and other obstacles. Do NOT overfill carts - lids must close completely. Gray carts are for garbage, green carts are for recycling only. Hialeah has its own unique street grid system separate from Miami-Dade County - the city is divided into four quadrants (NE, SE, NW, SW) with Palm Avenue and Hialeah Drive as baselines. Verify your collection zone using the interactive maps at hialeahfl.gov or by calling Progressive Waste at (305) 638-3800. Multi-family buildings (5+ units), condominiums, and commercial properties must contract private haulers and are not eligible for city-contracted service. Report missed collections within 24 hours by calling Progressive Waste Solutions at (305) 638-3800 or City Public Works at (305) 687-2630. Illegal dumping is prohibited - report violations to Code Compliance at (305) 883-8000. During hurricane season (June-November), secure all carts and materials if severe weather is expected. For personalized schedules, zone lookup, and service information, visit hialeahfl.gov, call Progressive Waste at (305) 638-3800, or call City Public Works at (305) 687-2630.
