Holiday Schedule

Recology San Francisco drivers work EVERY holiday except Christmas Day (December 25) and New Year's Day (January 1). If Christmas or New Year's falls on your regular collection day, your collection will be delayed by one day that week only. All other holidays (Thanksgiving, July 4th, Memorial Day, Labor Day, etc.) have NORMAL collection - no delays. Set carts out the night before your regular collection day to ensure pickup. Collection times may vary due to traffic and route changes.

Important Information

San Francisco has MANDATORY recycling and composting requirements for all residents and businesses since 2009 - the first major U.S. city to implement such a law. All three carts (black trash, blue recycling, green compost) are collected on the SAME day, once per week. The city's goal is Zero Waste by 2030, currently diverting over 80% of waste from landfills. Property owners and landlords must provide adequate recycling and composting services. Violations can result in fines. Free kitchen compost pails available. Recology is employee-owned and operates the Artist in Residence Program at the transfer station. All carts should be placed at curb by 6:00 AM on collection day with lids fully closed and handles facing the street. Keep carts 3 feet apart. Proof of San Francisco residency required for HHW drop-off and transfer station use (bring driver's license or utility bill).
