City of Sacramento residential customers can schedule one FREE household junk pickup per year. Service available February through October only. To schedule, call 3-1-1, use the Sac311 mobile app, or visit Sac311.org. Set items at curb by 6:00 AM on scheduled pickup day. Items should be separated from regular trash carts. For large or heavy items exceeding limits, residents can use the annual Free Dump Day event at Sacramento Recycling and Transfer Station (typically held in May) or self-haul to the facility with their free annual dump coupon (mailed in June).

Empty, rinse, and dry all containers before recycling. Remove lids and caps. Flatten cardboard boxes to save space. Do NOT bag recyclables - place items LOOSE in blue cart. No loose plastic bags or film - these can be recycled at participating grocery stores and retailers. Keep food and liquids OUT of recycling cart to prevent contamination. Place blue cart at curb by 6:00 AM on collection day. Collection runs from 6:00 AM - 5:30 PM. Set carts at least 3 feet apart and away from vehicles, poles, and other obstacles. Holiday Schedule
City of Sacramento curbside collection (trash, recycling, and organics) operates Monday-Friday on a regular schedule throughout the year. Collection is NOT affected by most holidays - service continues as normal on Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, and other federal holidays. However, HHW facilities and transfer stations ARE CLOSED on major holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas Day, and New Year's Day. For missed collection, call 3-1-1 (or 916-264-5011) after 6:00 PM on your scheduled collection day. Place carts at curb by 6:00 AM on collection day. The annual Free Dump Day event (typically first Saturday in May) may be rescheduled if it falls on a holiday weekend. Household junk pickup service is available February through October only (not available November-January).
