All recyclables go in the mauve/pink cart - no sorting required. Materials must be clean, dry, and empty. Rinse food and beverage containers. Flatten cardboard boxes. Remove caps and lids from bottles (caps can be recycled separately). Do not bag recyclables - place items loose in the cart. Plastic bags are the leading contamination source and cannot be accepted. "When in doubt, throw it out" - contaminated loads cannot be recycled. Place cart at curb by 5:00 AM on collection day. Keep cart at least 3 feet from other containers and obstacles. All public recycling drop-off locations have been permanently closed due to contamination and illegal dumping.

Holiday Schedule

Scottsdale Solid Waste Services observes only THREE holidays with modified collection schedules: New Year's Day (January 1), Thanksgiving Day (November 27), and Christmas Day (December 25). On these holidays, collection is delayed: Thursday collection moves to Friday, and Friday collection moves to Saturday. All other holidays including Martin Luther King Day, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, and Veterans Day do NOT affect collection schedules - service continues as normal. Hand collection routes (alley collection with shared 300-gallon containers) remain unaffected by holidays. Place containers at curb by 5:00 AM on collection days, as crews may arrive earlier than normal during holiday weeks. City offices are closed on all federal holidays, but field collection crews work normal schedules except for the three observed holidays.

Important Information

City of Scottsdale Solid Waste Services provides comprehensive waste management for approximately 84,000 single-family residential accounts across 184.4 square miles. Services include weekly trash and recycling collection, monthly brush and bulk pickup, quarterly electronics recycling events, household hazardous waste home collection, and free landfill access. Scottsdale uses address-based routing for collection schedules - residents must use the "My Services" tool at scottsdaleaz.gov/solid-waste and enter their address to find their specific collection days and monthly bulk pickup week. The city operates with a "clean, dry, and empty" recycling policy to minimize contamination. All public recycling drop-off locations have been permanently closed due to high contamination rates and illegal dumping. Scottsdale residents with utility accounts receive free weekly access to Salt River Landfill (up to 2,000 lbs per visit). Collection containers must be placed curbside by 5:00 AM on collection day and should be at least 3 feet apart from each other. Containers should be stored out of public view when not in use. For multifamily housing residents, contact property management about recycling services. Report collection issues or request special services through the ScottsdaleEZ online portal or by calling 480-312-5600. The city emphasizes "Hot Loads" safety - never mix incompatible chemicals or hazardous materials that could cause fires or toxic reactions in collection trucks.
